The Oaktree Foundation is looking for a NSW Advocacy Division Leader aged between 18 and 25
The Oaktree Foundation is Australia’s first entirely youth run aid and development agency which aims “to empower developing communities through education in a way that is sustainable”.
Since 2003, Oaktree has provided over 27,500 young people in developing communities with educational opportunities. It also has an extensive program of engaging young people in Australia, through networks in schools, unis and churches; large scale events such as the Make Poverty History concert in 2006 which featured a number of major Australian and international artists including U2 and Pearl Jam; and advocacy campaigns such as the ZeroSeven Roadtrip in July 2007 that mobilised over 700 young people across Australia spreading the message of Make Poverty History as they travelled from every major capital to Sydney.
The NSW Advocacy Divisional Leader is responsible for effectively communicating and implementing the Oaktree Foundations advocacy, public awareness and public education objectives within NSW. This involves understanding political and social issues, creative development of campaign ideas and coordinating campaigns.
Skills and experience required:
Oaktree is seeking someone aged between 18 and 25 with an interest in social inquiry and current events, exceptional communication skills, leadership abilities and creativity; who is passionate about the mobilisation of young people to make a difference in their world.
The role requires a commitment of at least 10 hours per week. The timing of these hours is flexible, except for the attending of weekly meetings.
