Provide a safe and welcoming environment.

Overnight Volunteers at a Homeless Hostel
Spend time to sit and talk with Homeless guests.
Make a difference to Homeless People`s lives.

Teresa House; a community-based homeless hostel in Surry Hills / Redfern provides emergency accomodation for up to 10 guests a night.

The house is entirely funded by donations and staffed by volunteers.

Our guests often have no other acommodation options for reasons of addiction, mental illness, addiction or unexpected corcumstances.

We currently need overnight volunteers:

Two overnight volunteers stay in the hostel and ensure a safe and welcoming environment for guests. They arrive at 9pm and get a hand-over from the evening volunteers and introduction to the guests. They spend time talking to the guests and ensure an environment of openness, respect and support.

Volunteers sleep overnight in a secure volunteers room.

In the morning they set the breakfast table, and spend time with the guests until they leave at 7.30 0r 8am (some volunteers with early work-committments arrange with guests to make this earlier).(Overnight volunteers may also choose to do a dual shift from 6pm onwards to spendmore time with the guests)
  • New volunteers will always be rostered with experienced volunteers.
  • Male volunteers are particularly needed.
  • Volunteers can choose to be rostered weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
  • Volunteers are also needed for shopping, laundry and other tasks.
