Asthma Children`s Camp Program Volunteer

Asthma Children’s Camp is a fun filled, week long annual camp.
14th - 18th January 2008, Milson Island Dept of Sport and Rec. camp.
Do you have experience working with children in a support role?
Principal Accountabilities:
To work within a team of volunteers (together with Asthma Foundation NSW staff) to support children attending the camp, encouraging them to learn about asthma and asthma management in a fun and safe environment
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Participate in an orientation session with the Volunteer Coordinator at the beginning of camp.
2. Coordinate and support children in a Medications Group:
- Monitor and support children every morning and evening to take their asthma medications using correct technique.
- Monitor and support children every morning and evening to complete and record peak flow readings using correct technique.
- Attend DSR organised activities with the children and seek opportunities to build their participation in camp activities and confidence.
- Use ‘free time’ to support and encourage children in activity participation, building friendships and learning more about asthma.
- Assist in the collection of evaluation data from the children about their experience at the camp
3. Support the Department of Sport, Recreation and Tourism (DSR) staff to run day and evening activities and manage the children as requested by the DSR staff.
4. Attend asthma information sessions with the children and assist the asthma educator or camp coordinator to deliver the sessions as requested
5. Adhere to DSR policies, including their policy on alcohol that supports the campsite as an alcohol free zone. This means that volunteers cannot bring alcohol onto the campsite or consume alcohol during the week.
6. Undertake any other activities as requested by the Asthma Camp Volunteer Coordinator or Asthma Foundation NSW staff Skills, Knowledge and Attributes.

Glitter and Glue, kick a ball, play in the doll house, ride a bike
Playing with kids at our Activity Centre- South Windsor
Saturdays and Sundays 10:00am - 3:00pm.
Purpose of Program
This weekend Activity Centre operates in order for carers and/or parents to have childfree visits to the gaol. There are times when parents or parent and carer need to talk about issues their children should not be overhearing. This is a free service, where the children benefit from a non-judgemental space, and find common understanding about their family circumstances.
The children get an opportunity to interact with other children facing similar difficulties.
Program Description
The childcare centre operates Saturday and Sundays, at our South Windsor office. This program targets children aged 0-16 years. This centre offers free childcare for children visiting South Windsor Prisons.
Special skills and qualities needed
Due to the nature of this work it is essential that all our volunteers possess a non- judgemental attitude, have an interest in playing with children and are reliable, fun and responsible.
Description of Volunteers Position
Volunteers help interact with the children; play games; comfort sore knees; be a friendly face; reassure the children; and generally help with the smooth operations of the child care centre.
Times this service operates: open Saturdays and Sundays - 10:00am - 3:00pm.
Roster: Preferably on a monthly roster or perhaps emergency relief.
Area covered by service: Dillwynia (women¡¦s) and John Morony (men's) Correctional Centres
Number of volunteers required for this service to operate? 1 volunteer but 2 are preferred.
It is important for volunteers to know that, in terms of scheduling, the childcare centre can only operate if 2 adults are presents and SHINE FOR KIDS can not afford to pay 2 staff members.
This means 1 paid staff and 1 volunteer are needed for the childcare centre to operate at all.
If a volunteer does not show up the childcare centre will close on that day. Please keep this in mind when committing to the roster.
Activity equipment and materials are provided by SHINE FOR KIDS and any related expenses will be reimbursed
Lunch is not provided
This work will entail going inside women's and men`s prison and comprise of child and minimal prisoner interactions.
In this position you will always work in a supervised capacity with qualified childcare staff.
And regular contact with the Activity Centre Coordinator.
All Volunteers undergo Annual professional supervision.

This centre can only be accessed by car, parking avail, John Moroney Correctional Centre, Northern rd Windsor. we are located on the fringe of the prison complex.
Our head Office is in Sydney at Silverwater.
The Cottage, Holker Street, Silverwater Correctional Complex.
By Car is the easiest way to travel here and there is plenty of free parking, or you can travel to Silverwater with Bus numbers: 440, 442, 444, 555.
Description of the Internal Recruitment Procedure
All volunteers must undergo 4 official checks in relation to child protection and corrections.
All volunteers are interviewed before commencing volunteering at SHINE FOR KIDS
2 x passport photos are required.
All volunteers are offered induction training and on the job training
This training includes SHINE FOR KIDS policy and procedures, child protection and corrections.

Assistant Volunteer Program Co-ordinator
SHINE for Kids seeks two Assistant Volunteer Program Co-ordinators. These positions will work at Silverwater and offer varied, dynamic and exciting scope for the right person. Best suited to self starters, these crucial roles will help fuel our volunteer program and help SHINE for Kids develop in new communities throughout NSW and beyond. These positions will have primary and secondary responsibilities with scope to tailor the roles to suit the successful applicants’ interests, competencies and skills.
Identified tasks include processing volunteer applications; assisting with recruitment strategies; responding to volunteering enquiries; maintaining online advertising opportunities and community recruitment partnerships; assisting with program evaluation and review; tracking progress made by our volunteer researchers and library volunteers; and researching partnership and donor opportunities.
Position will involve a weekly commitment of 5 hours on a Thursday or Friday and involve phone networking, limited photocopying, data entry into MS Access, and on line research.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Researching, lead sourcing and identifying new prospective clients (via the Internet, in-house databases, trade associations, trade press etc).
- Performing initial introductory calls in order to establish decision makers (i.e. initial fact-find calls to establish key contacts).
- Provide post-sales support to the Sales Executive.
- Collating, updating and maintaining the integrity of the corporate database for the sales campaign.
- Assist the Business Development Manager with external and internal liaison with stakeholders including but not limited to catering services, venue operations, hire, signage and staging.
- Assist with the implementation of the tourism and corporate marketing plans.

Be Part Of An Emergency Team
Personal Support - Can You Help In A Disaster?
Regular training days to update your skills
This position is part of ActNow.
Join the 3,000 Red Cross volunteers from across NSW who assist our local communities during times of emergency or disaster. We are looking for calm, friendly, fit people and we will provide you with training so you can provide support in the event of a disaster happening. This is a people orientated role working out of the evacuation and disaster recovery centre that would be set up in your area. You would be a listening ear for people who have been affected by the disaster. You would also help in the smooth running of the centre as directed by team leaders.
To qualify to assist in a disaster there is a one day training course for the Personal Support role. We have teams in all suburbs and regions so you are matched with the group you live closest to. Ongoing training is also offered to volunteers on listening and communication skills.
All volunteers for this position must be over 18 years of age.

About the Program: As per the previous two years, the CVA volunteer team will provide general assistance and support in the staging of the commemorative services at the Anzac Commemorative Site and at Lone Pine on 24th & 25th April 2008.
We anticipate that the team of 25 will be divided into three sub groups, with a CVA leader appointed to each. CVA volunteers will be on duty from 2:00pm on the 24th to about 2.00pm on the 25th. Everyone will get a break of a couple of hours during this time, and everyone will get to work in at least two of the three main work areas. Last year, volunteers were allocated to a work area eg south entrance, and remained there for the duration. Everyone stops work to attend the services.
The CVA team may also be required to conduct a litter clean-up along the coast road and the road from Lone Pine to the coast (Artillery Road) on the days prior to the Anzac Day service. In addition to assisting with the dawn service at the Anzac Commemorative Site and the Australian service at Lone Pine, volunteers will visit other significant sites on the Gallipoli Peninsula such as Anzac Cove, Shrapnel Valley, the Nek, Chunuk Bair and Cape Helles. They will also enjoy a cruise along the ANZAC coast on the quiet waters of the Aegean Sea.
