ASIST - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

ASIST is a 2-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. Participants learn to recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide and respond in ways that help increase their immediate safety and link them to further help. ASIST aims to enhance a caregiver’s abilities to help a person at risk to avoid suicide.

When: Monday-Tuesday 30-31 August, 8.30am-5pm.
Where: Wesley Conference Centre, 220 Pitt Street, Sydney 2000.
Cost: Earlybird (by 16 July) / regular: $230 / $270 participant, $190 / $230 per student.

“I Speak my Mind” – Disability Forum

Hear about the issues faced by Australians with a disability, their carers and families, from people’s experience. Sue Werner, Employment Services Coordinator of the Spastic Centre of NSW, will talk about the difficulties of people with disabilities in accessing employment. She will introduce two clients – Sandra and Julius Kullhan - who have celebral palsy, both work, have two children, and featured last year on the Mike Munro. Lesley Gild, the current president of Access Ezer, will speak about the practical needs of parents and carers, and the that Access Ezer does to assist inclusion in the Jewish community. Come to learn and discuss.

When: Sunday 1 August, 7.30pm.
Cost: $5 donation, free for students and unwaged. Includes supper.
